This Fellowship offers intensive training in comprehensive spinal care, with a strong emphasis on degenerative spinal pathology, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, and spondylolisthesis.  Approximately 3,000 new patients are seen each year.  Each Fellow evaluates patients in the clinic, actively participates in pre-operative decision-making, and is intrinsically involved in 50-75 surgical procedures per month.  Surgeries include minimally invasive techniques, adult reconstructive surgeries, ALIF/PLIF/TLIF, spinal cord stimulators, and lumbar disc replacements.  Lumbar, cervical and thoracic regions are well represented.  Outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic injection volume is approximately 400 procedures per month including discograms, facet injections, and selective nerve root blocks.  Fellowship includes comprehensive training in spinal injections, rehabilitation, and pain management as well as the principles of practice management, including managed care, contracting, billing, collection, and scheduling.  Fellows work with spine surgeons, thoracic surgeons, pain management specialists, spinal injectionists, psychiatrists, psychologists, radiologists, and physical therapists.  Each Fellow is required to complete two clinical research projects suitable for publication.

All candidates must be Board-eligible in orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery and have a California medical license by August 1 of fellowship year.
